Did I expect lots of water? Yes. Did I anticipate the human carwash that ensued? Nope. Did it blow my mind and make me want to do it again? HELL YAH!!
The Zambezi is 1700m wide and plunges 120m over the Victoria Falls. It's trapped in a gorge about 40m wide. It serves a side dish of crocodile and attacking hippo for dessert. Sound like the best spot to tackle some seriously rapid grade 5 volume rapids right?? 10/10 for safety...
Step 1 - Get yourself to the Shockwave Adventure office at 6 am. After having a cup of Ricoffy strap up for a bumpy 4X4 ride to the Zambezi river.
Step 2 - Practice how to paddle and wave.
Step 3 - Paddle bokki, paddle!
Rapid 4 Morning glory- Finally I know what the hype is about;) This rapid just wets you just enough to make you wanting more.
Rapid 5 Stairway to heaven- One of the highest rapids in the world.
Rapid 6 Devils toilet- The devil wears flippers??
Rapid 7 Gullivers travels - They say its long , it's even longer when someone decides to ride on you and the rapid.
Rapid 18 Oblivion- You will understand the name after watching this clip. All but 1 got washed away and another was so terrified he swam away from his own rescue.
Step 4: Eat. After 5 hours of rafting then walking a 5km uphill stretch in 35 degree weather yes, we will have a beer and some chicken!
We thank Snake from Shockwave Adventures for showing us the way through water heaven and thank our lucky stars crocodiles prefer white meat:)
